Wellness Statistics: A characters overall health can be determined fairly well by three values, their health, stamina, and mental focus. All three are very important to a character and are explained in greater detail below.
Health: Many games make your health (hitpoints) go up and down at a
steady rate. This never really made sense if you think about it in respect
to the real world. In reality you would withstand a blow much better at full
health and take a hit harder as you start getting tired and hurt. For this
reason health will be handled a little differently than in most games. As
your health goes down the rate at which it goes down will accelerate slightly.
On the positive side when you are at full health you will take less damage.
Also it does not make sense that someone can just sit down and heal back up
to full health. In all likelyhood if you have just been in a battle and you
are at 20% health you have some mortal wounds which will never heal on their
own and you are at risk of bleeding to death. For that reason there will be
two cut off points. The first of which will be where you stop healing your
own health back naturally (unless you have some special item, ability, etc)
, the second is where you start bleeding to death.
Stamina: Is basically a guide to how physically exhausted your character
is. As your character works harder whether it be by running, fighting a prolonged
battle, or swimming a long distance this value will decrease. As it does certain
things happen, you can only run/jog at diminished rates (proportionate to
your stamina level) you will take more damage, you won't hit as hard, etc.
Mental Focus: Many other RPG's focus only on a magic users mental focus.
However this is an entirely important consideration for all classes. For example
a jeweler sometimes takes a great deal of focus to create the perfect setting
for a stone. If not completely focused hours of work may be lost. At the same
time a warrior must be very at focus during battle. For this reason all trades
will have Mental Focus taken into account while using your trade. This value
will diminish if too many things need to be focused on at once or after you
have drained yourself mentally. There are other circumstances that it may
not be able to max out for example if you are on a boat you may not be able
to concentrate 100%
Storage/Carrying: There will be two things that can affect how much
you can carry. The first and most obvious is your strength. It should be fairly
obvious that a weak magic user could not carry very much compared to a very
strong troll warrior. The second is how much a character can actually carry.
This means things like you only have one back, so you should really only be
able to carry one backpack and a carry bag possibly. However depending on
the back that may hold quite a bit. But you may want to think about what you
need to carry in advance. Also there will be places in the game in which you
can store items and movable storage like the back of a horse.
